Our first submission of 2025 to the EU Oceans Pact emphasises the fundamental role of the ocean in sustaining life on our planet. As Arthur C. Clarke astutely observed, “how inappropriate [it is] to call this planet Earth when clearly it is Ocean.”
This perspective aligns with James Lovelock’s vision in Gaia – A New Look at Life on Earth, where he highlights the interconnectedness of all living systems. Our submission advocates for stronger protections, sustainable management, and innovative policies to ensure that the ocean—our planet’s true lifeblood—remains resilient in the face of climate change and human impact.
Thank you to our contributing members who worked hard on this submission: Jack O’Sullivan, Sara Guigui, Luke Fagan, Nazia Naheed Husain and Orla Coutin Fitzsimons.
